Why are we so incredibly sad? (2021)
photobook, 2021why are we so incredibly sad? is a product of me interfacing with this prolonged sadness that existed in my practice of seeking comfort. My art practice situates the act of documenting comfort centrally. However, even within those comfortable moments there is an eerie discomfort at play. In this book, zine, interactive art object, I try to expand on this sadness, I try to make the viewer feel it, I invite people to interact with the book and make new art out of their sadness, using my photobook as a starting point to process whatever they need to.
To launch the book I did a small pop up gllery at the SMFA Library in Boston. It was a community engagment practice where poeple convened, spoke of art, love, loss and pain and healed together.
